What do you believe?

For several days I had on my mind a picture of an acquaintance whom I met couple of days ago. He had a Chetnik Serbian folk hat on his head, he was known as a supporter of certain "anti-Semitic" ideas. I jokingly asked him whether he "changed sides", and with great pride in his voice, he answered that he is still “a nationalist”. I just laughed and went on ... there was no purpose to keep him a history lesson (since they have already done another in their interpretation) nor to explain the etymology of the word "nationalism" ...

We are born in a poor time, when the rust which has been in the society for years started defeating the red structure. Fifty years ago it was all ours, all of whom were brothers, they were all alike, and then everything collapsed overnight, and everyone wanted "something" that will call only "his" and indivisible. And then everything that was pushed under the carpet is out ... hate, aggression, desire that those around us suffer ...

I will not talk about who is guilty and who is the victim, it's not the point now. The point is that all these monstrous events are getting their final shape now, within us, who we were born then, and now hear stories about the brave soldiers who fought for us, which we owe to all who have shed their blood for the noble cause. A noble cause, "exterminate" the one who is not like you at all costs?? Kill the one who called you yesterday “brother” and together they stood under one flag, and now you fight against him like a puppet of phantom megalomaniacs?

This confused us, left us with nothing but to weigh all we know, but again, it is a double-edged sword-since there are  so many different stories, how do we know which is true? This reminded me of stories of freelancers who would take photos of a village in flames, and after, would sell the same image to both warring parties to make their own media through the clip as "beastly act of the other ones." Are clip-politician freelancers buying and selling us in the market of souls?
This is a time of transition and reconciliation of nations, when all admit their mistakes, but most do so by default the system-because the EU says so. Is there then true repentance in this, and so that we ourselves believe that some things were a mistake when neither our fathers nor the politicians are not recognizing them as such.

 And what is left then?

SUMMARY OF PAST:
1st Partisan-Yugoslavia bastion vs Greater Chetniks-killers and collaborators
2nd Capitalism is death vs Communism is milk and honey
3rd Long live Tito vs fraternity, unity-Yugoslavia

SUMMARY OF NOW:
1st Partisans a faction of the Resistance vs The Chetniks as important factions of the resistance
2nd Want it or not, capitalism is here vs Communism is outdated model
3rd Democracy in its infancy vs Belgrade pashadom

When you weigh it all, it remains just that we should wonder whether we are Serbs? This appropriation of history which the Balkan nations do only further deepens the boundaries that have already been drawn by a granates of hatred. Appropriation of everything that can be usurped, now no one knows what belongs to whom, so the most logical possible conclusion-ALL IS NOBODY'S.

The main problem is in my opinion, I keep going back to the past with the moto "not to forget", but, I appeal on behalf of all victims, it is time to seal up some things and send them down the river of time, because this is the only way to heal all the scars that we young people today bear.

POINT: To look into the future, not to take past events and their ideology as the main principles, and to reach out to others, no matter how much harm we have done in the past because the future has time to make up for all the wrongs.
